Parts of Devon woke up to a covering of snow this morning (Wednesday, March 8) after the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning.
The snow seems to have mainly fallen around the Blackdown Hills, Exmoor and Dartmoor and the Tiverton area but missed most of East Devon, with Twitter users instead reporting rain and overcast conditions in the district.
Some towns and villages in neighbouring Somerset were blanketed in snow this morning, forcing some schools to close and bus services to be suspended in Taunton.
This follows the Met Office issuing a yellow weather warning for snow across Devon, Somerset and parts of Cornwall on Monday.
This morning, a spokesperson for Devon County Council said: “The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice today, which might cause some travel disruption.
“Drive with care and follow @DevonAlert for the latest updates on Devon's roads. Never assume a road has been gritted.”
The county council's gritters were out “across Devon overnight on selected routes” last night and early this morning.
Motorists have been asked to “drive according to the conditions and leave extra time for your journey”.
