Hello; I'm doing research into the evacuation story of my mother, Pamela Skinner, who was evacuated to East Anstey during the war (about May 1940) along with her brother, Paul, and sister, Rosemary. Pamela spent time billeted at Gulland Farm and Oak Farm. The farm was about 3 miles from the school in East Anstey. Does anyone out there have any information on these farms? Do they still exist? Does anyone have any photographs they could share?
Paul (age 7), and Rosemary (age 4) were each billeted to different places - Rosemary was billetted to a Mr. and Mrs. Bucknell who lived near Oldways End in a cottage named "Moreview", about 3 doors down from a Methodist Chapel. Paul was billetted to a house near the same cottage.
Rosemary mentioned that along the road to Oldways End, there used to be a blacksmith and stables, in buildings that are now garages for cars. She also mentions the school in East Anstey, a Methodist Chapel near Oldways End, and a pub in the village. Can anyone located and send me pictures of these locations?
My mother now lives here in Canada, and would very much enjoy seeing these locations. Since she'll never travel there again, I am hoping that some photographs might trigger a few other memories.... anything you might be able to share would be wonderfully appreciated!
