I moved to the Exmouth area last year from Plymouth. I wanted to make a fresh start in a better environment for my son. Im a divorced, single mum of 42. I don't work due to studying at home with Open University, which is quite restrictive when it comes to meeting new people.
I'd be interested in ideas on how its best to meet and make new friends in a new area. My son is at High School so I no longer do 'school runs' and my neighbours, while lovely, are elderly. Id like to meet people my own age for drinks/coffee/chats/walking the dog and so on.
I never believed that relocation and making new friends at this point in life would be so hard. Oh for a social life
Thank you Rob
Unfortunately I'm a confident person but not so much that I could walk into a pub alone and strike up conversations with complete strangers. I wish I was, I think its a woman thing though.
Having been here for a year now though Im beginning to wonder how long it actually does take to become established. A year and still no interaction with real people. I love the town and the area and dont regret moving here at all but am now finding its getting lonely. Ive used the internet for many years and I have to say I find its all geared to dating and couples, not simply meeting friends.
I shall keep trying though.
Hi Exmouth Lady
I am local to East Devon having been born in Sidmouth originally and lived in Honiton for the last 7 years, we moved here about 6 weeks ago.
I will admit I don't have a lot of time, I work full-time and am doing a part-time degree as well, so fun, fun, fun.
I don't have children, however, I do have a dog (mischevious), and I am partial to the odd drink.
I am 33 years old and string a fairly coherent conversation together. I am quite confident and outgoing and have already made it into a pub on my own, but as I go on and off building sites for a living, I don't really let anything intimidate me.
If you want to meet up, please reply to my post and we'll find some way of meeting up - give me until after the end of bank holiday in May though as that's when I need to get all my coursework in!
