Nice to see that Sidmouth is bucking the trend in the (otherwise) national fall in house prices. Or so the estate agents would have us believe.
I noted the rather unfortunate article headline in the Sidmouth Herald - suggesting that the high prices keep out the riff-raff.
Whether or not it is surrounded by quotes - it is still a rather unfortunate headline!
It is just a shame that opinions such as that of the reader, who is a 78 year old man, actually exist. The article states that he moved to Sidmouth 20 years ago and could afford his bungalow - lucky him. There are lots of local people that cannot afford to buy their own homes around here - then and now - but they are certainly not riff-raff.
There are far too many GOCs with this 'I'm all right Jack' attitude in this town.
Mmmm I'm inclined to agree with you Seadog. The prices down here are sustained by outsiders coming here and buying up the properties, some families even buying more than one. The locals that have been born and raised here just cannot afford to get on the property ladder to stay in the vicinity of their families - it is very wrong that people's attitude should be "keep the prices up to keep out the riff-raff." If that chap was quoted accurately then he owes local people an apology.
Couldn't agree more - it smacks of out and out snobbery - there is no room for these attitudes nowadays.
