Already done it Scully! On one occassion, I spent 10 minutes waiting to get through to the call-taker, listening to music and messages telling me that I am now only being charged half the cost of what I used to be for making the call. I eventually got through and invite you to guess the outcome!!
I've found that sending relevant details to the company that owns the offending vehicles - if identifiable - by email, usually gets a response and an undertaking to deal with driver internally - hmm nasty!
You think that the rows and rows of parked cars in the streets and on pavements make this town beautiful do you?
Congratulations to the local councillor who has decided to apply for the road adjacent to the "Triangle" to be designated a No Loading/Unloading zone - this should stop the blue badge holders from parking and causing obstruction to turning buses as recently reported in the Sidmouth Herald.
I just hope that it is enforced.
The police are giving up their civil parking enforcement responsibilities next March and it appears that the local authorities are not taking over their duties until May 2008! - Hmmm.
Whatever way they tackle the issue they are going to have to be self financing and it has been recently reported that other towns are not raising the revenue they expected. Does this mean that we'll be seeing Pay & Display machines replacing free parking on the Esplanade? If so - we should see a more enforcement and probably a few more tickets being issued. Every cloud has a silver lining!
According to reports in last week's Herald, the police are having a crackdown on parking infringements today (Tuesday 18th March) - the traffic warden and PCSOs will be in town taking a zero tolerance approach to vehicles causing obstructions and incorrect use of blue badges.
Think I'll pop out and see how they're getting on.
The town PCSO and Ottery Traffic Warden were hard at it in Sidmouth yesterday - it looked as though they found it difficult to move away from the town centre - High Street area as the offenders just kept on coming! Its a wonder the both of them are not suffering from R.S.I. after all that ticket writing!
It's such a shame it was a one day show and that they will not be out there today - the offending motorists certainly will. There's nothing more resilient than the ignorant car parker.
Bring on the Civil Enforcement Officers - lets get this problem sorted.
When do the council traffic wardens start? The sooner the better.
The police have just not had the manpower to sort the problem out in towns such as Sidmouth - its been a free for all for years!
It would be a good idea to introduce 'Pay & Display' along the seafront as well - that would give the council an incentive to provide adequate staff to enforce matters.

Totally agree......... Have heard that Civil Parking Enforcement commences on 5th May 2008 - I wonder if we'll see a difference?
Saw 4 of the CEOs out and about yesterday - going around in 2 pairs. Have also noted that the loading bays seem to be free of illegally parked cars for most of the time now.
I do believe its working!
Now we hear that legislation does not give CEOs recruited after March 31st the authority to issue Penalty Tickets for car-par overstays.
Dohhh !!!
Oh dear!
The last two instances I have spotted the CEOs (end of last week and yesterday) - they were on the Esplanade - Driving around in a white van!!
How can they do their job whilst sitting in a van? Perhaps they are being briefed on how to do the job by the ol' bill!
Now that is a shame.
I was in Exmouth yesterday and noticed a pair of CEOs patrolling in Rolle Street/Strand areas - they seem to be keen over there. I do hope they do not make a habit of staying in their van, perhaps you saw them just on their way to start work.

Well - isn't it about time we saw some action regarding this - they don't 'arf move slowly around here. Where's the No Loading/Unloading bay then?
It has been absolute mayhem in Sidmouth today.
Road works in the High Street - cars parking in Loading Bays and on double yellows - vans and cars pulling up onto pavements and not a Civil Enforcement Officer to be seen.
I have just seen 2 mini-buses and 3 cars parked down by the shelters (on double yellows) at Port Royal end of the esplanade causing all sorts of fun as other drivers try and turn around - and I must agree that cars are still parking in the town Loading Bays. Its a pity but after 6 weeks you would have thought that we would be seeing some sort of improvement. Perhaps the EDDC decision to take a softly softly approach is not working after all.
I often wonder why the CEOs walk around in pairs - they look grown up types to me, old enough to go out on their own - surely if they patrolled singley they could cover twice the ground. Perhaps they are still training?
Yes I believe the reason they patrol in pairs is for training purposes - but, 6 weeks on the job training should be enough surely. The sooner they split up and do the job on their own the more area they could patrol. I'm not convinced the council will do this properly - they should have outsourced to a private (professional) company - that would have achieved results.
