Fund-raising would encourage a sense of pride
Having read your articles, I would like to make a comment on the proposed Honiton Community Centre.
Some years ago, before I moved to Devon, the village where I was living started a scheme to build a community centre.
To help swell the funds and to give the locals a feeling of pride, it was decided that we could buy a brick for (in those days ) £1 each. Each person could buy as many bricks as they could afford.
I don’t know how much the cost of living has increased in the last 25 years, but I think £5 per brick could work.
Eventually, the community centre was built and every time I passed the centre I felt a sense of pride that my small donation had helped to make it happen.
Could this idea be put before the committee?
