Dear Mr Hornbrook

TRAFFIC CALMING SAFETY MEASURES FOR A35 THOUGH KILMINGTON

The residents and users of the A35 though Kilmington have got together and decided that we will no longer tolerate the dangerous conditions of the A35.  Something needs to be done now,  before someone is killed in the village.  A child has already been hit by a car and badly injured, we don’t want to wait until that happens again.

We want a safe zebra crossing for children  who daily have to cross the A35 at the Whitford Road junction to enable them to get to Kilmington Primary School.  Also we want a Speed Limit through the village of a maximum  of 40 mph, lower at the school crossing morning and afternoon.  Currently we have no Kilmington village name sign even on the Honiton end of the Village, and although one has been ordered it will just be plain Kilmington and not Please Drive Slowly Through Village underneath, can we ask how much extra that would have cost to warn drivers?  A triangle warning sign is required by the bus stops as children and elderly residents regularly cross here.

We are aware a survey of the road is underway, but in the past this has come to nothing. The Village is very busy now, with Miller’s Farm Shop doing a roaring trade, also the garage, the level of traffic is now heavier than ever, and faster.

We have gained the support of our local MP Hugo Swire,  Devon County Council Executive have given us their full support. We currently have a petition with 400 signatures to date (ongoing).  Also the Local Police have given us their support as they are keen to reduce the number of road traffic accidents.

We urge you to support our campaign.

Yours sincerely
