Weekends YONDER HILL, Shepherds Lane, Colaton Raleigh, EX10 0LP. Judy McKay & Eddie Stevenson. Tel: 01395 567075. 3 acre paradise started 1992. Unconventional planting. Shady walks, sunny glades, young woodland, ponds, herbaceous borders, orchard, vegetables, wildlife areas, including large pond made 2007. Several collections, many surprises. A garden with ‘soul’, must be experienced to appreciate. Tea/coffee and biscuits available. Make it yourself as you like. Picnics welcome. Admission £2.50 – children £1.

Small highly-specialised suburban garden with extensive collection of alpine and rock garden plants in crevice gardens, scree beds, rock gardens, troughs and tufa bed. Many rare and unusual specimens. Small nursery attached to the garden. Admission £2 – children free.

May 14 FARMERS' MARKET. The Strand Gardens from 9am to 1pm.

May 15 – 17 DEVON COUNTY SHOW. Westpoint, Exeter. The Devon County Show is the largest event in the county calendar and is the perfect place to enjoy a tour of rural life. The show is a giant shop window for rural Devon and links consumers with farmers, food producers and others working in the countryside economy. www.devoncountyshow.co.uk

June 27 - 29 THE LOOKOUT, Sowden Hill, Lympstone, EX8 5HE. Will and Jackie Michelmore. Two wildlife-friendly acres on edge of Exe estuary. Created from derelict site over last 5 years by garden designer owner to harmonise with coast and countryside location and maximise on views. Flotsum and jetsam finds amongst naturalistic-style seaside planting. Walled garden, small jungle area, short circular walk through wild flower meadow to pond (unfenced), copse and river bank. Numerous places to stop and enjoy stunning views and sea air. Unsuitable for disabled, steep paths, gravel steps. Admission: £2.50 – children free.
