Hot Pennies from heaven
The skies were filled with hot pennies in Honiton, on Tuesday,
July 25, as the traditional event took place.
Hundreds of people gathered under the windows of pubs to catch as
many coins as they could.
People of all ages used ingenious methods to catch the coins, including
plastic bags, lunch boxes, and buckets.
Mayor Vernon Whitlock watched the ceremony, which was led by town
crier Dave Retter.
Coins were thrown from the Old Pannier Market, the New Dolphin Hotel,
the White Lion and the Three Tuns.
Those taking part were excited to join the ancient event, and one
safety conscious lad wore a riding helmet for protection.
