VICTORY was there for the taking when Sid Vale CC unveiled its 2007 offering, Brazilia, at the first illuminated carnival of the season in Seaton.

Florescent feathers and a touch of samba dancing brought the spirit of South American carnivals to another corner of the globe.

Brazilia took best overall and first in the open float class after putting the wow factor into the line-up.

The prize for the most colourful entry, a newly introduced award, went to A & A CC, of Kilmington, with Crazy Horses.

Colyton-based Nyphos pulled off their second successive coup, unveiling the follow-up to last year’s hugely popular Nymphos Go Down Under.

Nymphos Go Mental Oriental caused a few raised eyebrows as well as plenty of laughs.
Thousands lined the streets to watch the spectacle, led by Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service and Seaton Majorettes.

Returning to Seaton for the first time in 12 years was the hugely popular Bournemouth Carnival Band.

Also taking part was former Seaton Carnival Queen Marie Frost - as Aqua Marie on Seaton Lions’ entry.

Procession manager Peter Burrows praised the dry weather and commended crowds for their enthusiasm.

“I think the procession went very well,” he said.
“People enjoyed it and the weather helped.”

Mr Burrows said he was disappointed Seaton’s seafront lights failed to switch on during the line-up.

“It’s the first time I haven’t seen them on,” he said.

Carnival organisers were sitting down as your Herald went to press to count donations collected during the procession.

Mr Burrows was hopeful that the final figure would reflect the big turnout.
