Honiton Netball League Angels prepare for busy season

Division One: Keeley's Angels 40, 'Visions 22; Wasps 42, Flamingos A 34.

The top four sides were in action tonight and, at the end of the evening, it was Keeley's Angels who had moved into the top spot with Flamingos A slipping to second, after holding pole position since the opening day of the season.

The Angels were up against fourth-placed Visions and, after a close first quarter [9-6], they began to establish control so that at half way they were 18-10 in front.

With Karen Hodgins playing well at WD, the Visions were finding it hard going, despite some fine play at centre from Gill Hall. The third period proved pivotal as Angels extended the lead to 27-16 before ending the game with their unbeaten record intact, thanks to a 40-22 win.

The second game of the evening was between Flamingos A and Wasps. The first two quarters were close with Wasps just one goal up at 18-17. With both GAs playing well, Nicola Field for Wasps and Teresa Youens for Flamingos, the sides couldn't be separated going into the final session with scores level at 25-25. Wasps turned on the power in the final period to power to a 42-34 win that saw them hold onto third place.

Division Two: JD Tyres 22, Tip Top Trees Acorns 34; CMC Birds 9, Met Office Weather Girls 37; Sidmouth Toucans 19, Flamingos B 40; Lyme Bay 26, NAS Vehicle Repairs 10.

Tip Top Trees Acorns maintained their good form with another win - this time defeating JD Tyres by 34-22 thanks once again to some fine shooting from Dani Wakeley. Sarah aka Louise Newton was the pick of the JD side but Acorns are in great form at the moment. The first period was close with the Trees 7-4 to the good. In the second period they dominated the play and JD Tyres fell 5-15 behind before rallying in the third quarter where the play was even going goal for goal. Tip Top Trees Acorns won by 34-22 to hold the top spot for another week.

Flamingos B kept the pressure on when they beat Sidmouth Toucans. The Toucans have not been as formidable this season as they have in previous campaigns. With Cressida Auckland playing well for Flamingos, they established a 18-8 lead by half way. Although Vicki Tarr got the Sidmouth side going better in the last two periods, they could not do enough and their 40-19 defeat meant they missed out on a point. As a result, and because Lyme Bay recorded another win, Toucans slipped to sixth place.

Lyme Bay moved up to fifth as a result of their victory over NAS Vehicle Repairs. Lyme Bay, with Emma Bright playing well were too strong for NAS, despite fine work from Chrissy Squire.

Lyme won 26-10. Final game of the night saw CMC Birds up against unbeaten Met Office Weather Girls.

With Rebecca Green excellent at GD for the Met Office they proved too strong for CMC and their unbeaten record never looked in danger.

Splendid play from Julia Mallon kept the Weather Girls score down to a respectable level. Nevertheless, it was a fine 37-9 win for the Met Office.
