A POPULAR village pub has been forced to close due to the double whammy of the pandemic and the economic downturn.
Owners James and Charlie have called last orders on The Five Bells Inn, at Clyst Hydon, near Cullompton.
They have posted a message online explaining their reasons for closing and thanking staff and customers for their support.
The two, who spent nearly five years at the pub, have also assured people that deposits for future bookings will be refunded.
Their statement says: "It is with great sadness that James and Charlie have to announce the closure of The Five Bells Inn.
"Lockdowns and the economic downturn that they have caused have left the business struggling financially and, in spite of the hard work of the team and the support of our customers, suppliers and our landlord, it is simply not possible to continue trading.
"All deposits taken for future bookings have been processed for refunds via Stripe.
"We hope that new owners can be found in due course to re-open a fantastic pub."
