Axminster Community Shed has done its bit to ensure that the cause of remembrance is not forgotten in Axminster with a large wooden poppy as a long-term visual boost for for the town’s British Legion.
With some skilled input from from the locally based Woodscott Joinery, the ‘Shedders‘ produced their large carved poppy, which will now be used to draw attention to poppy sales. The poppy was handed over to Peter Slimon, Chairman of the Royal British Legion Axminster Branch by Shed member and military veteran Patrick Daumann-Rattenbury and his assistance dog Dotty.
Community Shed secretary and treasurer Colin Hayward said: “There is a strong feeling amongst our members that the sacrifices made by those who have served this country must never be forgotten. We very much hope that our poppy helps the Legion to draw attention to its work.”
Meanwhile, the Shed’s own shop window display picked up the Legion’s award as the best of all those who accepted the challenge to promote the cause.
