The inaugural Baton 'Never Out Of Mind' Service of Remembrance took place on Sunday, November 5.
In attendance were the Deputy Lieutenant, Group Captain Gordon Evans RAF and the Lord Lieutenant Cadet Tom Knapp, Exeter School CCF Navy.
Honiton Town Mayor Helen Hurford, Simon, Dave Retter, Honiton’s town Cryer with members of the Honiton Town Council joining is so apt and appreciated, as Honiton is the home of the Baton.
Wreaths from the Devon Lord Lieutenant, SSAFA Devon and The Baton were laid after relatives had lit candles in memory of their loved ones whilst a Roll Call of names were read out.
The aim to create a different approach to remembering loved ones was achieved, we the response truly heartwarming, our sincere thanks to everyone who came and enjoyed what is a new approach to remember those we care for.
The Service was on a web link and watched by people in Denmark, USA and Canada
Alan Rowe, organiser of The Baton said: "A huge thank you to the team at East Devon Crematorium for their support Katherine Ohlsen, Craig Mounty especially put an incredible amount of effort into bringing an idea into reality as did the Reverend Peter Crockett (CF Rtd) who led a super and warm service. Most of all thank you to everyone who came to make this first service so special with all ages there from 3 months upwards to ancients like myself. We are already working on next year's service, provisionally Sunday November 3rd taking up suggestions and ideas put to us, please let us know if you would like to join in."
