Axminster Twinning Association planned a full year of activities at its recent annual general meeting.

The first event, which has already taken place, was a ‘soiree des jeux’ – an evening of traditional games.

In June, 32 members will visit their twin town of Douvres La Delivrande in France for a long weekend, staying with local families.

Monthly French lessons are being held in members’ homes, followed by a light supper and wine.

Axminster was officially twinned with Douvres in 1999.

The beautiful Normandy town is near the D-Day beaches and close to the city and ferry port of Caen.

It has around the same population as Axminster and, like its Devon partner, it holds a colourful street market.

To find out more about the twinning group and its activities, with a possible view to joining, people should contact the chairman Caroline Hillyard on 01297 34497.
