The driver of a blue Rover had to be cut free from his vehicle and was airlifted to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital after the crash, which happened near The Old Inn.

He was the only occupant of the car which was in collision with a black Ford Mondeo which had four people inside, one of whom also suffered injuries and was taken to hospital by land ambulance.

Police have closed the road in both directions and diversions are currently being put in operation at Taunton Cross and on the eastern end of Axminster bypass.
