Pupils and staff at Offwell CoE Primary School celebrate their latest Ofsted report.

‘Encouraging relationships and joy in learning typify the teaching and learning’ - that is what inspectors had to say about Offwell C of E Primary School.

The school received ‘good’ ratings in inspection reports by both Ofsted and the Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools (SIAMS).

Headteacher Anne Billington said: “The staff and governors are proud of our achievements and are pleased our many strengths have been recognised.”

The Ofsted inspector identified many strengths of the school and said he had enjoyed meeting Offwell’s children and the warmth of the welcome he received, recognising the school as a very special place with the potential to rapidly secure itself as outstanding.

He recognised the headteacher and teaching team act quickly to support all children so both attainment and progress are a strength.

The inspector said that Offwell School is a lovely place to be, a school where ‘encouraging relationships and joy in learning typify the teaching and learning’.

The report highlighted the ‘high attainment’ of children at the school and recognised that because they ‘learn and achieve well through the school’ – ‘the rates of progress are accelerating’ and children show ‘impressive levels of understanding’. Also it flagged up the improved teaching during a period of change and said ‘leaders and managers have sustained a drive to bring about improvement’.

The relationships between staff and children are praised and teaching was said to be ‘highly effective’ by the inspector.

Offwell Primary School is already working towards attaining an ‘outstanding’ inspection rating and is addressing two areas highlighted in the report, which were ‘ensuring high quality handwriting and punctuation is consistent across the school’ and ‘securing good relationships with some parents and carers’.

Mrs Billington added: “We look forward to working with our parents and families, local community and church in both celebrating our school and rapidly meeting our two targets.”
