Awliscombe United Football Club is to host a fund-raising race night in memory of Daniel Manley who lost his battle with cancer.
The memory of a young footballer, who lost his battle with cancer, is to be honoured by Awliscombe United Football Club.
The club is preparing to host a special race night on Saturday (October 13) in memory of Daniel ‘Dano’ Manley.
Daniel, who played for the football club, died in 2009 from signet ring cancer - a rare form of the disease - when he was just 23.
He was studying agriculture at Bicton College.
Dave Ings, who is helping to organise the village hall event, said: “The causes are close to our hearts.
“Dan played for Awliscombe and his family are quite involved in the club and come to a lot of the events.”
The race night is already gathering public support as tickets are selling well. They cost £5 and include food.
To purchase a ticket, a racehorse, or for more details call Jack Layzell on 07886 628947 or Dave Ings on 07894 165400. Those interested in attending the event, which starts at 7pm, are advised to book in advance.
The hosts are also looking for businesses which may be interested in sponsoring a race or donating a raffle prize.
Proceeds will be split between the football club and Cancer Research UK.
