Cadet Flight Sergeant Jacob Rosen, of the 1064 Honiton Squadron Air Training Corps, and Major Roger Courtice, from Whitford, were celebrated at a special ceremony.

An air cadet from Honiton and a major from Whitford have been recognised for their dedication and commitment to Devon’s cadet and reserve forces.

Cadet Flight Sergeant Jacob Rosen, of the 1064 Honiton Squadron Air Training Corps (ATC), was one of four young people to be appointed as a Lord Lieutenant’s cadet for the next year during a ceremony at County Hall in Exeter.

As part of the role, he will accompany the Lord Lieutenant, Eric Dancer CBE JP, on his official engagements.

Jacob, who is from Ottery St Mary, has been a member of the 1064 Honiton Squadron for more than five years and has completed all his training classifications to a first rate standard.

He has also completed the ATC Communications Award and has a BTEC in aviation studies, music and public services.

In recognition of Jake’s commitment to his unit he has been presented with the squadron’s ‘best cadet’ award for two separate years.

In the future he hopes to train as a civilian aircraft maintenance engineer, but would like to join the Royal Air Force in the longer term and where possible continue to work as a youth development volunteer.

l Major Roger Courtice, who has served across reserve and regular units in a military career spanning over 44 years, received the coveted HM Lord Lieutenant’s Commedation for Meritorious Service.

Roger has served all over the world with a number of different regiments and gained a vast amount of experience as a regular officer in the Armed Forces.

On leaving the regular army, he joined the 6th Battalion The Rifles and has over the last 10 years played an active part in building on the battalion’s output.

The 62-year-old has served as the unit’s employment and support officer - directly liaising between employers and soldiers deployed in Afghanistan.

Brigadier Tony Dalby-Welsh, chief executive of the Wessex Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association, said: “Each recipient of the Lord-Lieutenant’s Award is a credit to Devon and should be proud of their outstanding achievements.

“People like Roger and Jacob are excellent examples of the commendable contribution volunteers and cadets make to their local community.”
