A number of plots are available free for two months at Ottery’s allotments. Read this and more.

HOUSING: Recommendations for housing sites in the villages around Ottery will have to be made by the town council in a special meeting this month. Councillors held consultations in Alfington, Tipton St John and West Hill last month, and a report from the feedback will be used to help them decide where they believe homes should be built under the Local Plan. Proposals from town and parish councils on village housing sites across East Devon need to be submitted to the district council before the end of the month. Then planners will finalise the Local Plan ahead of a six-week public consultation before submission to the planning inspector. The Ottery St Mary Town Council meeting starts at 7pm in the football club at Washbrook Meadows on Thursday, November 15.

ACCIDENT: Two fire appliances, one from Sidmouth and one from Ottery, were sent to reports of a road traffic collision in Tipton on Sunday around 2.15pm. A spokesman said on arrival crews found one vehicle involved with no persons trapped and made the vehicle safe.

ALLOTMENTS: A number of plots are available free for two months at Ottery’s allotments. Several tenants were recently removed by the council on advice from the allotment committee, and anybody interested in taking over the plots will get it for free until the renewal date in January. After that it costs £27 per year for a full plot, and £13.50 for a half-sized one. For more details contact the town clerk, Judith Reynolds, on 01404 812252.

SERVICE: The Hospiscare Service of Light remembrance event will take place in Ottery on Wednesday, December 5. The popular services help people honour the memories of departed friends and family, and include carols, readings and prayers. Organised by Hospiscare, which provides end-of-life care for local patients and their families, there are services across East Devon and Exeter, including the lighting of a Tree of Light on Cathedral green in the city on which people can dedicate a light to a loved one on. The Ottery event will be held at the Parish Church at 7pm. For more information on the services and the Tree of Light, and to donate to Hospiscare, visit www.hospiscare.co.uk.
