Hedgehog Corner Guest Accommodation and Cottages voted the region’s best at the Taste of the West awards
An Uplyme bed and breakfast business has been named the best in the south west.
Hedgehog Corner won its latest accolade in the guest accommodation category at the Taste of the West awards.
Owner Joy Raymond joined the cream of the South West’s producers and hospitality providers for the prize-giving ceremony in the Bristol Pavilion at the county cricket ground.
She was presented with her engraved award by well known restaurateur Mitch Tonks.
Joy said: “After 15 years running this business from scratch, it’s so nice to receive this top award from within the food and drinks industry itself.
“By using such quality local suppliers, many of whom have already gathered Taste of the West Awards before - such as Complete Meats, Four Elms Fruit Farm and Lyme Bay Wines - it is easy to provide excellent produce, home made or bought in, for our guests to enjoy.
“My favourites are the “Choco-rassic” chocolate Ammonites from Uplyme which promote the Jurassic Coast and the guests devour with gusto.”
In his written report the judge said he had never seen such commitment to local produce as he found at Hedgehog Corner Guest Accommodation and Cottages.
He said Joy waxed lyrical about the local area on her menus, advertising and website. She even promoted other local competitors, at times, which showed a huge commitment to the area.
“A level of excellence has been reached that deserves recognition,” he added.
