Lifeboat supporters in East Devon have launched an appeal to keep their amazing fund raising efforts afloat.

Seaton, Beer and District branch RNLI wants volunteers to come on board and is inviting them along to the annual general meeting next week.

It takes place on Tuesday, March 12, at 7.30pm in the function room of the Dolphin Hotel, Beer.

Kevin Riley and Steve Hockings-Thompson will be doing a presentation on the new Shannon Class lifeboat and launch vehicle for Exmouth Lifeboat Station.

The meeting will also hear of another successful year for the branch with souvenir and gift sales totalling £37,404 – the majority from the kiosk at Beer, but including £2,481 from sales at events that memebers attended across the area. A further £13,348 was raised through events, donations and collections.

Branch secretary Wendy Cummins said they were grateful to Axe Yacht Club which raised £1,632, plus £319 from souvenir sales, at their annual open weekend for the RNLI during August bank holiday.

She also praised Seaton Tesco for its support during the year and said £544 was raised during their Christmas collection.

“A great time was had by all at our RNLI SOS Day event ‘Brew for the Crew’, with a “Zumba on Zaterday” session on Saturday January 26,” she said.

“Some £348 was raised from the teas, coffees, stalls, and the sponsorship and donations from the zumba session. A further £61 was raised from the sales of reduced priced items and Christmas cards. Our thanks go to Johanna Morgan for leading the way with the Zumba. The money raised will be allocated to the Exmouth launch vehicle appeal.”

Meanwhile volunteers are needed to man the sales kiosk at Beer from March 22 to October 27, with various shifts still available. Anyone able to help should call 01297 20048 or email audreytims@hotmail.co.uk.
