New £50,000 health-boosting facility set to launch at Axminster

A new £50,000 Aquagym will be launched at Axminster’s Flamingo Pool next week.

The health-boosting facility – purchased after a successful bid for £50,000 from the People’s Millions lottery – will open to the public for the first time on Monday, March 23.

The Aquagym will then be available for 30-minute sessions on Mondays from 6.15pm to 8.45pm, Tuesdays 9.30am to 10.30am, Thursdays 7.30am to 9.30am and Sundays 9am to 11.30am.

Additional sessions may become available at a later stage. Each 30-minute session will cost £1.50, in addition to the normal entry price, including a swim, making the Aquagym financially accessible to more of the community.

For existing monthly membership holders, an additional £4 per month to their existing monthly fee will ensure unlimited use of the Aquagym, subject to availability.

Having received training from Aquagym, the Flamingo Pool staff will conduct inductions on to the equipment. Inductions are pre-bookable at Flamingo Pool reception at £10 for members or £5 for non-members.

An induction and a fitness questionnaire must be completed before using the equipment. The induction price also includes a swim.

Capitalising on the natural properties of buoyancy and resistance, the Aquagym creates a zero impact, complete aerobic and strength training workout which is particularly suitable for the elderly, disabled, non-swimmers, overweight, those in rehabilitation, with medical conditions or mobility challenges.

Steve Buxton, centre manager, said: “We are very excited to finally have the equipment and a launch date and hope that the local community will benefit from it as much as we think they will.”
