Artist to paint portrait of pet lurcher

Members of Seaton and District Art Society are looking forward to their first meeting of 2013 when a pet lurcher will be the model for a portrait in pastels.

Artist Emma MacFadyen will be bringing along her own dog when she gives the demonstration.

Emma is a well-known local artist and animal sculptor who started her artistic career following a short course at Dartington College. She was one of the judges at the art society’s 40th annual exhibition in August.

At the society’s annual meeting on December 3 profuse thanks were extended to the retiring chairman, Fred Slatter, and treasurer Joan Garner for their dedicated and voluntary work throughout their terms of office.

Along with a new chairman and treasurer, the society is pleased to announce that it has a full committee and its members are committed to making 2013 another bumper year.

Emma MacFayden’s demonstation is on the January 7 at Seaton Town Hall, 2pm to 4pm.

All are welcome and tea and biscuits are served in the interval when the committee will be on hand to answer any questions from old and new members.

The society’s Monday Club meets every Monday afternoon at the Methodist Church Hall, in Seaton, where, for two hours, members can draw or paint in whatever media they choose knowing that they will be with like-minded people, irrespective of whether they are complete beginners or professional artists.

To be part of this friendly club, you can become a member of the Seaton and District Art Society for an annual fee of £20.

This sum also entitles members to attend the demonstrations and talks held at The Seaton Town Hall once a month.

The programme for 2013 has been carefully put together by the society’s programme secretary and life sculptor, Anna Day Lewis.
