An air cadet leader from Exmouth has been given a prestigious award for his dedicated service.

Flight Sergeant Anthony Preston, 27, is one of 18 volunteers from across Devon who has been awarded the HM Lord-Lieutenant’s Commendation for Meritorious Service, at a ceremony held at the County Hall in Exeter.

Anthony is a member of the 2019 Squadron Air Training Corps (ATC) in Sidmouth. Beginning in 2005, Anthony quickly took control of many roles to ensure the smooth running of the unit, including training officer, officer in charge and health and safety officer.

Described as never missing a training session, Anthony is said to be consistently supportive to all events within the unit.

He was presented with his award by the Lord-Lieutenant himself, Eric Dancer.

Brigadier Tony Dalby-Welsh, Chief Executive of the Wessex Reserve Forces’ and Cadets Association, said: “Each recipient of the Lord-Lieutenants’ Award is a credit to Devon and should be proud of their outstanding achievements. People like Anthony are excellent examples of the commendable contribution volunteers make to their local community.

“Without the efforts of volunteers, it would be impossible to offer such a valuable service to the region.”
