Phillip Collins, 23, from Complete Meats is named a champion at the Butchers Pork Product Excellence Awards
A young Axminster butcher brought home the bacon after winning a top award for his tasty pork sausages.
Phillip Collins, 23, from Complete Meats, pulled out all the stops to impress judges at the South West Regional Roadshow and Butchers Pork Product Excellence Awards, held in Exeter last week.
His ‘Devon Pickly Pork Sausage’ was hailed a success by the team of leading industry experts and earned him the champion title in the Young Sausage Maker category at the BPEX event.
The contest at the Sandy Park Conference Centre attracted 31 butchers armed with 190 products.
Phillip has been working at Complete Meats for four years and can now add the hotly contested ‘Champion’ title for the South West to his name. His brilliant banger uses locally sourced pork mixed with tasty Devonshire pickle to produce a flavoursome speciality sausage.

Owner of Complete Meats, Shaun Vining said: “We are so proud of Phillip’s success. To develop an award-winning sausage in a matter of weeks is a great achievement and something he should be extremely proud of. Following its success we are planning to stock the sausage for our customers to enjoy – hopefully it’ll become a firm favourite.”
