Local MP Neil Parish says he is “deeply saddened” by the plight of Axminster Carpets.

As talks continue to find a solution to the company’s financial problems, he told the Midweek Herald: “I am deeply saddened that such a historic company as Axminster Carpets has applied to go into administration.

“This must be an uncertain time for those working for the company and I would like to extend my sympathies to those employees who have work so hard to keep the company going.

“Axminster Carpets has a long and proud history.

“Axminster Carpets have been manufacturing since 1755 and their wares can be found in homes the world over, including Clarence House, the home of the Prince of Wales.”

Mr Parish, Conservative MP for Tiverton and Honiton, added: “I have spoken with Joshua Dutfield, managing director of Axminster Carpets Ltd, and local Councillor Andrew Moulding offering my assistance.

“I will work with all concerned parties to try and find a solution to the company’s financial difficulties as soon as possible so that its work can continue and ensure that these jobs stay in Axminster.”

The Midweek Herald wishes to make it clear that Axminster Carpets has not gone into administration, and continues to trade, but that the option is there, should current talks fail.
