St Mary’s Catholic School Choir, from Axminster, ended on a high note when they took part in the recent Devon and Exeter Performing Arts Festival.

They featured in the section for large primary schools and were voted the winners for the second year running.

And there was also success for the school’s wind band which performed in the instrumental section.

The young musicians were awarded a commendation for their performance and The Chiverstone Music Shield for best performance in the wind and brass ensemble section.

Meanwhile St Mary’s has also enjoyed success in the sporting arena.

They took a quick sticks hockey team to The King’s School, Ottery, to compete against other teams in the East Devon area. After some well fought matches, the children went through to the final, which they narrowly lost after a penalty shoot out. However, their success in this tournament has won them a place at the Devon Winter School Games which will take place on Thursday (April 3) at Exeter University.
