Colourful floral displays outside Axminster’s Red Lion pub are the toast of the town.

Their “stunning” hanging baskets have been judged the best in a contest run for business premises by the local Rotary Club and the chamber of commerce.

Last week Rotary president Simon Dunn went along to present the cup to the landlord Andrew Bedwell, who has run the popular inn with wife Tara for the past eight years. Throughout their time as licensees the couple have always taken great pride in their floral displays.

Rotarian Peter Baulch, organiser of the competition, said: “Everyone wins if we can do a little to make the town more attractive to shoppers and visitors and Andrew and Tara’s displays are stunning.”

The competition will be run again next year.
