Two teams battled it out to claim fundraising victory.
A charity challenge modelled on the BBC’s The Apprentice took place at an Axminster-based company, with the lucky winners enjoying a plush weekend in London.
Ten employees from Axminster Tools Centre were challenged to brand and sell as many sausages as they could in a test based on the popular show.
The challenge was carried out by the company’s ‘Aspire’ team – a group of ten individuals selected as potential leaders who have been undergoing management development.
Split into two competing teams called Trafalgar and Gestalt, the employees had to use their selling prowess to flog the most sausages between midday, Friday, September 6 and 6pm on Thursday, September 12.
After selling nearly 12,000 sausages between them, Team Gestalt with their Big Pig brand came out on top, achieving a higher level of sales and profit than rival Team Trafalgar, despite the latter team brokering a deal with River Cottage in Axminster to provide sausages.
Both parties delivered their presentations in the boardroom at Axminster Tools Centre on Thursday, September 12 and then met at 7.30am the following morning when the results were announced.
Cheers rang out as Gestalt members geared up for London, while the Team Trafalgar were told they were going to spend their day cleaning the Tool Centre’s warehouse, but were let off in light of their performance.
Ian Styles, managing director of Axminster Tool Centre, said: “Both teams raised a grand total, and the great thing about the challenge was everything the teams did was very realistic.
“They had to work out their budgets, profit margins, broker deals – everything you’d do in a business. What was even better is they really enjoyed themselves and were engaged in every aspect of the challenge, and no one was fired at the end of it.”
The profit resulting from the challenge raised £1,865.50 for company’s chosen charity for 2013, Children’s Hospice South West.
