Uplyme’s Hedgehog Corner in line for another top award for supporting renewable energy

Catering for guests with electric cars has helped to put an Uplyme tourist business on the road to national acclaim.

Multi award-winning Hedgehog Corner B and B and Cottages is in line for a Green Tourism in Business coveted gold star, to be presented this autumn.

Owner Joy Raymond admits she was “totally taken by surprise” when she heard the business had been shortlisted.

“I fell against our new electric car charger with surprise,” she joked.

“I really do feel that the systems we purchased from the exemplary local firm Evergreen Renewable Energy, in Lyme Regis, has given us a massive boost both in terms of energy economy and putting us on the short list for this prestigious award.

“They fitted out three of our properties with PV solar panels last year and the benefits are already enormous. When you think of the machines that run here, day and night, to service up to 34 visitors, to generate some of our own electricity is fantastic. We are now awaiting our first guests to use our free new electric car charging point.

“Ian Crabbe and his team are so helpful and obliging – it really is a pleasure doing business with them.”

Mr Crabbe said: “We are delighted to be associated with Hedgehog Corner and are more than happy to visit other establishments to discuss energy saving requirements with them.”
