Axmouth pet - named after a curry - clinches the top award at the South Western Counties Cat Club show
A champion cat named after an Indian curry took away more trophies for its proud Axmouth owner after competing in a prestigious westcountry show.
Four-year-old Balti collected a haul of silverware at the South Western Counties Cat Club show, in Taunton, on September 28.
The family pet – pedigree name Imperial Grand Champion Wellmar Balti - was spayed last year and won her premiership as a neuter and best of breed.
She then went on to become best British neuter then best British overall before taking the overall best in show award, ahead of the 250 cats taking part in the event.
Owner Patricia Absalom was thrilled at Balti’s performance.
She said: “She was showered with wonderful prizes and rosettes and posed willingly for photographs.
“We had a wonderful show and met up with a lot of old friends, some of whom we hadn’t seen for over 40 years.”
Balti is a brown spotted British shorthair. She and her brother, Rogan Josh, continued their father Vindaloo’s tradition of being named after curries.
Mrs Absalom, who keeps her cats at her home in Stepps Lane, said she named them after Indian-inspired dishes because they were brown – and “vey spicey”!
