BBC Spotlight weather presenter Emily Wood will turn on Sidmouth’s Christmas lights. Read this and more.

SWITCH-ON: BBC Spotlight weather presenter Emily Wood will turn on Sidmouth’s Christmas lights at 5.30pm, on November 17.

MINOR INJURIES: Emergency services raced to a two-car collision on the A3052 at Trow Hill, Sidford, last Friday night, October 26.

Firefighters from Sidmouth called for help from an ambulance crew and police. Paramedics treated two people suffering from minor injuries.

YOUNGSTERS ART: Sidbury Mill will stage an exhibition showcasing the work of talented youngsters who took part in masterclasses with artists Alan Cotton, Martin Procter, Candy Robinson, Liz Vonberg and Graham Watson.

The event will run from November 9 to 11. Work will range from paintings in Acrylics, silk screen and pottery.

SPOOKY CASH: A Hallowe’en ball at Newton Poppleford’s pavilion on Saturday night raised £160 for the Rainbow Pre-School.

Organisers thanked those who helped with the event and attended it.

DISPLAY DAY: The Sidmouth branch of the Royal British Legion’s window display competition is being judged on Thursday, November 8.

It comes as part of the Poppy Appeal and the two categories are for large and small shops.

SPORTING celebration: An unprecedented 350 young people with disabilities from across Devon descended on the Tarka Tennis in Barnstaple to take part in a Paralympic-style celebration of sport.

At the Autumn Ability Games, children took part in rowing, football, tennis and cycling and represented schools from across the whole county.

There were titles up for grabs in each discipline and seven School Games areas – East Devon, St Luke’s, Plymouth and Dartmoor School Sports Partnerships, West Devon and North Devon School Sport and Torbay Sport Partnership.

The Autumn Ability Games is part of the national School Games programme which is delivered by the Active Devon.
