Lyme Regis Town Council clears up after huge waves batter the seafront

TOWN council staff went into action today after seven of Lyme’s seafront beach huts were battered by huge waves.

The high tides this morning (Wednesday, February 5), reached the Cart Road huts, covering the seafront with stones and dragging them out towards the sea.

Huts at the eastern end of the seafront were worst affected, with doors ripped off and people’s belongings strewn across the beach.

Lyme Regis Town Council owns all seven of the damaged huts and contacted the hirers to ask them to move out their belongings.

Five are annual or winter lets and two are unoccupied, while two privately-owned huts further along the row were also pulled forwards but not damaged.

Council staff helped the hirers move their belongings, cleared away damaged doors, and tidied up the debris littering the beach.

Storage containers at Rinky Tinks ice cream parlour were also dragged out but were left intact, and stones from the beach filled the area usually occupied by tables, chairs and umbrellas.
