Litter pick to help bring the community together.

Honiton is set to under go a spring clean and you can be part of it.

Instead of moaning about litter, a community initiative aims to get you picking it up.

A clean-up in the St Michael’s ward will take place on Sunday, January 20, and has been organised by Honiton town councillor Sharon Pavey.

Volunteers will be provided with tabards and rubbish bags on the day.

Hazelwood Close, Gronau Close, Brand Road, Honiton Bottom Road and Manor Crescent will be the focus of clean-up efforts.

Councillor Pavey said: “This clean up will show others that we care about the future of our local environment and that dropping litter is simply not on.

“I live in Hazelwood Close and walk to town through the little pathways connecting our streets. They are often littered with bottles, cans and crisp packets and not pleasant to walk through with my children.Sometimes people even dump sofas and supermarket trolleys there.”

She added: “Working together like this creates a sense of community and is a good way to meet your neighbours.”

Those interested in volunteering are urged to wrap up well and wear a raincoat during the event. Volunteers should meet outside Millwater School at 1pm.

The litter pick is is being supported by the Keep Britain Tidy campaign and East Devon District Council.
