Local motorcyclists have handed over the proceeds from a series of fundraising barbecues

From one group of bikers to another; local motorcyclists have donated more than £260 to the Devon Freewheelers.

Riders who attend the monthly Jurassic Bike Nights at the Greyhound Inn in Fenny Bridges Inn raised the cash.

The Freewheelers are volunteer bike couriers who provide a vital service to the NHS, delivering blood and organs to hospitals for transfusions and transplants.

They work 24/7, free of charge.

The money was raised by three summer barbecues at the Greyhound, whose owners Tina and Wayne have always gone out of their way to accommodate the bikers. They provided the cooking equipment and the Jurassic Bike Night group and their friends paid £2 for burgers and sausages. Many also put money into the separate collection bucket.

The bikers collected for the Devon Freewheelers last year as well, but thanks to the barbecues they topped last year’s amount by more than £100.

Leanne Wilkinson, a member of the group, said: “The Freewheelers are a crucial and much-needed support, and thus a worthy cause – plus we are bikers too.”
