Lyme Regis Rotary Club gives the local RNLI £500 to buy a set of high quality binoculars or a telescope and stand

The lifeboat team at Lyme Regis will be able to keep an even closer eye on incidents out at sea thanks to the town’s Rotary Club

Members have donated £500 to the RNLI specifically to purchase a set of high quality binoculars or a telescope and stand which will allow them to keep better watch over the bay east of the Cobb

“We raised these funds as part of our annual golf day,” said Rotarian Richard Finch, who is also a lifeboat sea safety Officer.

“The RNLI forms an integral part of our town and the volunteers that make up the crew, ‘sea-side’ and ‘shore-side’, are always there to help other organisations that wish to raise funds for charitable causes, be it the duck race or the Lyme Lunge. We are proud to be able to help the RNLI in a constructive way - to help them to save lives at sea.

“The recent relentless stormy weather has reminded us all of just how much we rely on the RNLI for our safety at sea. It’s not just sailors that benefit from the service. Recently we have seen a significant rise in the number of surfers, windsurfers, ski surfers, kayakers and swimmers etc. enjoying the waters of our beautiful bay, as well as fossil hunters on the shore between here and Charmouth.
