Empty French cheese containers on sale in aid of the RNLI at Lyme Regis

When it comes to raising money for charity old French cheese boxes are not be sniffed at.

At Lyme’s award-winning Town Mill Cheesemonger customers have been paying £2 a time to take home the empty brie containers.

They use them to decorate their kitchens, or as serving trays – and the money goes to help keep the nation’s lifeboats afloat.

Monger-in-Chief Justin Tunstall said: “We’ve swapped almost 100 of these for donations to the RNLI, raising over £200 in the process. But we’re building up a surplus once more and there’s probably good homes waiting for the dozen or so currently cluttering a corner of the shop. But until the Easter school holidays, the shop is open only from Thursday to Sunday, so people should please not come down with a shiny £2 coin in the early part of the week.”

The team at Town Mill Cheesemonger recently won the accolade as the UK’s Cheesemonger of the Year and was due to collect the award at Birmingham’s NEC on Monday (March 24).
