Devon County Council is to discuss its new budget for 2012/13.

A special joint meeting of the council’s scrutiny committees is to be held on Monday (January 30) and follows three public meetings held this week to go over the draft budget.

Members of the public can view a webcast of the discussions and comment online.

The council have had to reduce its spending as part of the Government’s Comprehensive Spending Review, which reduces council funding by 28 per cent over four years.

In 2012/13, £14.6 million has been cut from Devon’s grant.

The chairman of the joint scrutiny committee (Budget) meeting, Councillor Brian Greenslade, said: “This is an important part of the democratic budget setting process where non executive councillors of all groups have the opportunity to consider the cabinet’s recommendations and make references to the cabinet before they finally consider the budget for 2012/13.”

The recommendations will then be discussed by the full council on February 16.
