Organisers were delighted with a bumper turnout for the recent Millwey Community Festival at Axminster.

East Devon District Council development worker Victoria Robinson, who planned the event, said: “The aim of the day is to provide activities for the young people of the estate and their families, to try to increase community cohesion and reduce anti-social behaviour.”

Amongst groups represented was Axminster-based charity Health and Local Food for Families (HALFF) who ran a ‘Build a sandwich’ activity.

Tim, HALFF volunteer, said he was “astounded” by the number of sandwiches made and consumed during the three-hour session.

He said: “Everyone was encouraged to make their sandwiches as colourful as possible including grated beetroot and carrot along with the usual sandwich fillers. It was lovely to see parents and grandparents engaging with the children.”
