Referring to various articles on car parking in the Honiton area over the last few weeks, my view is that we should be thankful that 'shoppers did not desert the town' and 'car parks were full'. Yes, a lot of us feel that the charges are too high, but have we considered that EDDC get a lot of revenue from car parking and, if it was a lower charge, our payment of council tax could be even higher? It was, indeed, good to see the local largest car park full on several days leading up to Christmas, in fact there was, on occasions during the peak times, no spare space.IF Tesco get their way, with a super superstore nearer to the town (and let's hope that's a "NO") shall we see large numbers of walkers going to and from the town - and the Co-op car park nearly empty? The council's revenue then hit, so, surprise surprise, even higher council tax.It was encouraging to see so many people in the town centre during December. Shoppers do need a town centre with a variety of shops to give us more choice. We do not ALL want to buy ALL we need under one roof!Mary RackettTweed Close Honiton
