Honiton’s Beehive community centre has received a welcome boost of £2,500 following the success of rock oratorio Christ Crucified.

Representatives from Christ Crucified, including Andy Hague, who composed and conducted the production, presented a cheque last week to John Burgess of Friends of the Beehive.

The money will go towards the remaining costs of fitting out at The Beehive.

The sell-out production was one of the centre’s main opening events back in April, and saw more than 600 people attend.

Andy Hague is also the director of community choir Sweet Honi ‘n’ Soul and its concerts leading up to the opening raised more than £1,000 towards the sound equipment.

Grants with the support of local businesses, individuals and fundraising by groups like Sweet Honi ‘n’ Soul has helped raise £70,000.

Sweet Honi ‘n’ Soul will be holding a concert at The Beehive on Friday, July 11. Tickets are available from the centre by calling 01404 384050. All the profits will go towards supporting The Beehive.

CD and DVD’s of Christ Crucified are available to buy from www.christ-crucified.co.uk
