Thirty years on, the Honiton Decorative and Fine Arts Society is continuing to thrive.

The Honiton branch of the National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies (NADFAS) hosted a 30th birthday celebration at the Beehive community centre in Dowell Street, the new venue for its monthly meetings. It was attended by 200 people.

The chairman of Honiton Decorative Fine Arts Society, Heather Penwarden, said: “It was a beautiful day, made more special by having the Beehive as a venue. It was nice being able to chat to everybody, including some of the founder members, some who are still active members of the society.

“Thirty years on and we remain a thriving society, and now with our new venue we hope we can recruit more new members.”

A talk on sundials from Kevin Karney, a lecturer on the history and science of sundials, was given. The talk lasted an hour, during which time slides were shown along with examples of different sundials.

Afterwards branch president Lady Anne Boles was joined by chairman Heather Penwarden and some of the founding members in cutting the celebratory cake to honour the special occasion.

The day finished with tea and cake for all those in attendance.
