Focal point of Honiton’s festive decorations reinstated due to public demand.
There will be a Christmas tree outside St Paul’s Church this year after all.
Business leaders had hoped to scrap the annual spectacle - after working out the £1,000 cost amounted to most of Honiton and District Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s annual income.
But, following a public outcry, it has been revealed the tradition is to continue.
Colin Wright, chairman of Honiton and District Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said: “Due to popular demand, there will be a tree.”
However, to cover the cost, the number of smaller trees displayed in High Street will be reduced from 70 to 50.
Extra white lights are to be used to bring an added touch of sparkle to some of the smaller trees.
