Archant

Fundraisers Diana Virgin and Alex Waldron chopped off their locks in Honiton to raise money for Hospiscare in memory of a dear friend.

The pair shaved off their hair in front of family, friends and supportive locals at Honiton Conservative Club and raised £3,000, which will go towards the building and running of Hospiscare’s new East Devon Day Hospice.

The new state-of-the-art hospice is being built in King Street.

Diana and Alex lost close friend Paul Kiddle to cancer in February 2014 and wanted to do something in his memory. Paul had been affectingly nicknamed due to his bald head, so the pair decided to shave their hair off in his memory, whilst raising money for their local hospice, a charity close to both of their hearts.

Diana said: “We know how important Hospiscare is and to have somewhere here in Honiton so people don’t have to travel when they are not feeling their best will make a huge difference.”

Appeal fundraiser Sarah Smith added: “Diana and Alex have shown real commitment to our appeal by shaving their heads. It is fantastic to see local people fundraising for the day hospice, which will make such a difference in their community. I would love to hear from anyone who would like to help fundraise for us. Whether taking part in a race, running a cake sale or, like Di and Alex, shaving your head, it all helps bring care closer to people in East Devon.”

Hospiscare needs to raise £250,000 to build and run the new day hospice.
