Police release latest crime figures.

Crime is up in the Honiton town area according to the latest figures released by police.

PCSO Dave Keeler told Honiton Town Council at its annual meeting that figures had ‘gone up slightly’. For the period of April 14 to May 12 the total number of recordable offences was 51, compared to 43 during the same period last year.

There were four burglaries from sheds and outhouses, one theft of a motor vehicle and one from a vehicle, where power tools were stolen.

The meeting also heard that there were 14 other thefts, which included shoplifting offences. PCSO Keeler said: “We are suffering from kids stealing sweets from local shops.”

Twelve assaults were also recorded and councillors heard that six of these were incidents of domestic violence. In addition to these offences there were four incidents of criminal damage.
