The streets of Colyton were packed on Saturday as crowds cheered on the illuminated carnival procession.

The Battle of Portaloo float, entered by the town’s own Nunsford Nutters Carnival Club, was voted best overall entry.

The colourful parade brought a successful week of activities to a close with thousands raised for local worthy causes.

Street collections amounted to £1,533, the carnival market raised £4,948 while refreshments at the market added £50 afternoon teas £71 and ploughman’s lunches £500.

Carnival secretary Caroline Collier said: “We have had a very successful week, all events have been well attended and figures for Saturday are looking really good. The weather held off for the procession and it went well.

“The carnival committee would like to thank all organisations and individuals for the hard work they all put in to make the carnival such a success, without this support we could not raise monies for the loca charities we support.

“We are always looking for new members so if anyone would like to join us please contct me on 01297 553699.”
