Uncle inspired by his nephew to take on the London Marathon in aid of epilepsy charity.

A former Honiton man is lacing up his running shoes to take on next year’s London Marathon to raise money for young epilepsy suffers after being inspired by his young nephew,

Dan Jeeves, who now lives in Beer, will take on the 26.2- mile race for Young Epilepsy next April.

It is a charity close to the 26-year-old’s heart as his two-year-old nephew, Thomas, has been diagnosed with the condition.

“I have chosen to run for this charity because a few years ago my nephew Thomas was diagnosed with epilepsy and secondary seizures,” says Dan.

“The first fit that he had was when he was just a few months old. He stopped breathing, went limp and started to turn blue.”

Luckily Thomas’ parents were able to resuscitate him.

“From then, he was in and out of hospital having endless numbers of tests and often stayed in for up to a week at a time.

“It was a traumatic time for everyone involved, seeing a helpless baby going through all of this and not being able to do anything to help.”

Thomas is now on daily medication, but Dan says the work the charity has done helped to save his life.

He added: “The fantastic work that this charity does has, without a doubt, helped to save his life.

“The hard work and endless research that Young Epilepsy does helps to control the condition and helps many more children like Thomas.”

Dan is hoping to raise enough money to meet his target of £4,000 and is busy preparing for the race.

Beer Quarry caves is holding a special Hallowe’en night to help raise funds for Dan.

“I am just trying to do my little bit to help them and show my appreciation for everything they have done in the past and will continue to do in the future,” he says.
