HONITON will go to the polls again on June 24 - to give residents a chance to have their say on town council plans to develop a £1.75 million community centre on land off Dowell Street.

Electors will be invited to answer 'yes' or 'no' to one question, agreed at a meeting called by six residents, between 4pm and 9pm on Thursday, June 24.

All residents on the electoral roll will be able to vote, but no polling cards are being issued and postal votes will not be accepted.

Polling stations will be at the Mackarness Hall, Red Cross Hall and East Devon Business Centre.

Town clerk Lyn Hargood said in a statement: "The cost of the poll is estimated to be between £2,000 and £3,000, to cover 10 staff and the hire of three halls. This cost will be added by Honiton Town Council to the precept for 2011/12 as there is no existing budget to cover the cost.
