Demolition has been completed at the site of Hospiscare’s new East Devon Day Hospice in Honiton.
Locals gathered as the derelict house was knocked down ready to make way for builders to start constructing the new hospice.
Hospiscare is looking forward to seeing the area be put to use serving terminally ill patients and their families in East Devon by offering specialist care and support.
Building works started on May 13.
Nigel Whelan, the managing director of the builders D R Jones, said: “Jones Building Group are delighted to be involved in creating a new day care centre for Hospiscare in Honiton. It is an opportunity for everyone involved to create a landmark facility of this nature, which will provide an incredible service for East Devon. We would like to thank all those who have made this happen and the continued good will of the local community.”
The new day hospice will offer complementary therapies to patients and families, an assisted bathroom for those no longer able to bathe at home, nutritious meals cooked by the onsite catering team and a beautiful garden for a moment of peace. The centre in King Street will be multi-functional providing an efficient base for nurses and rooms that can be used by volunteers for meetings and for hosting educational sessions.
As a local charity Hospiscare very much rely on the generosity and support of local people and businesses to raise the money which is needed each year to continue providing its services.
Hospiscare need to raise £250, 000 to build and run the new East Devon day hospice.
